i do this in oakland. iq-matic works and other cities because to go in and take four or five permits and go to the clerk and put them in and walk away and go wherever they need to go. here and i have four or five permits that have several different scenario. two weeks ago i had a permit that was a can of peas or have to go to structural and to fire. i had a title 24 mechanical permit. all different systems and different kinds of plan checkers and need to see. i was there probably a day and a half to get all the other permits. the first weeks -- the first day i had a commercial demote permit that goes to one station. i got there and at a clock and did not lleave until 4:00. -- got there art 9:00 and did ntot leave until 4:00. i personally remember the old system would we have specialized counters for people, and i feel like even though we didn't do over the counter, it moved faster. i just think there needs to be a different system. i do not know about shopping for plan checkers. i do not know if it is abou

in the oakland city's attorney's office. we continue with our strategic plan for training and the police department offered two trainings, led by lt. joe mdfadden and representatives from cfi. the commander also gave trainings on mta. i have spoken to several times about the budget and what happened in the second quarter. the occ had an enhanced budget which one investigator had. the city comptroller for the first time in five years gave the occ a clean bill of health. on the numerous audits recommendations that were made in the 2007 audit. the sec is extremely happy about that and we will move forward. in terms of the investigation as cases, there were 376 new cases and we closed for 27. we close 51 more cases than we opened. we closed the quarter with three and 25 cases. 102 left pending cases and these figures are as of june 30. i give you some updated figures. in terms of caseloads, caseloads were down. that number looks better so things are looking up. sustained cases, the rate was lower in the second quarter of 2012 co

we brought in a speaker from oakland who gave a very informative speech about how restorative justice is really what we are after. not only with misdemeanors and infractions, but they should be front and center in our minds with more important crimes. after lunch, i asked the district attorney, isn't this almost a poster child case of -- clearly, something happened here, and now we have a wonderful person who loves his wife and child, is well suited to this job. it shouldn't we be seeking restorative justice so we move forward constructively? he said, yes, as soon as ross plead guilty to something, then we can have the restorative process began.
